Signs and symptoms of burnout

Exhaustion- feeling mentally and physically drained and depleted with little energy to carry out regular tasks within a day. Physical symptoms may be loss of appetite, increased appetite, headaches, stomach issues and sleeping problems.
Isolation- Often those experiencing burnout will not feel like socializing and instead isolate from family, friends and coworkers.
Escape Fantasies- Those that are feeling overwhelmed in their jobs and feeling unhappy may fantasize about running away or going on a vacation alone. Some may turn to alcohol, drugs, and or food to help ease their emotional pain.
Irritability- When feeling burnout and overwhelmed people can have a shorter fuse when dealing with friends' family and coworkers. The demanding tasks can become too much and start to feel unconquerable leaving the person feeling worse when things don't go as planned.
Frequent Illness- When experiencing a high level of burnout, the immune system may respond the same way as it would experiencing long term stress and can cause people to catch colds and flus more frequently. Long term burnout can result in mental issues such as anxiety and depression.
